KAIAM :: Management Team
Bardia
Pezeshki, President & Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Pezeshki was previously the main founder of Santur Corporation
(2000-2008), and acting as the President, Director, VP of
Engineering, and Chief Technology Officer of the company
at various times he developed the key ideas and managed their
transition to manufacturing. These included the tunable laser
that dominated the transition of long haul and metro networks
from fixed wavelength lasers to tunable, and more recently
the parallel transceiver that now leads the world in 100Gb/s
Ethernet.
Prior to Santur, Dr Pezeshki managed the Development group
at SDL (now part of JDS Uniphase) and a similar group at IBM Research
in Yorktown Heights. He obtained his Ph.D. from Stanford University
and has approximately 30 patents and 100 peer reviewed publications
and presentations.
Thomas
Schrans, V.P. of Engineering & Product Development
Dr.
Schrans was most recently at Santur Corporation and led the
integration team for the parallel transceiver product. Prior
to Santur, he acted as the Director of Engineering
at Oplink and developed the first XFP transceivers. He spent
10 years at Ortel and Lucent developing advanced components
for fiberoptic telecommunications.
Though his background
is in laser design and physics, with a PhD from California
Institute of Technology, his interest now lies in high
speed module development. In addition to numerous publications
and presentations, Dr. Schrans has been active in the
Standards bodies and helped shape IEEE standards and various
multi-source agreements.
John
Heanue, V.P. of Technology Development
Dr. Heanue has managed the development of numerous innovative
optical devices that span the industry, from very long wavelength
laser modules using quantum cascade sources, to optical storage
components. His background includes senior positions at Block
Engineering, Redshift Systems, Santur Corporation, Xros / Nortel
Networks, Quinta/Seagate, and Optitek. Dr Heanue received his
Ph.D. from Stanford University in Applied Physics developing
holographic storage technology..
Alice
Liu, Director of Passive Devices
Dr. Liu has been deeply involved in both the technology
and business of optical components. After receiving her Ph.D.
from Stanford University, she joined Lightwave Microsystems /
Neophotonics Corporation, where she introduced a number of innovations
in the PLC-based optical integration platform. As Senior Product
Manager, and later in Corporate Development, she worked closely
with off-shore manufacturers to bring up the company’s core AWG
and VMUX product lines. She received her MBA and worked for Alvarez
and Marsal Business Consulting firm before Joining KAIAM in 2010.
Michael
Malave, Controller
Mr. Malave brings over 20 years of finance and accounting
expertise to KAIAM. He has held upper management positions in
privately and publicly held hi-tech and government companies
in the Bay Area. With considerable experience in the optical
component companies, he has held various positions at SDL/JDS
Uniphase, Santur Corporation, and Avanex. His expertise is handling
full accounting operations from the normal challenges of startups
through complex financial transactions. Mr. Malave was born and
raised in Hayward, CA, graduated from CSU East Bay and is a CPA.
